HOUSTON (UPI) -- A political action committee started by a member of the Republican Party has been sunk after its name drew criticism from the Texas Democratic Party.

The "Boats 'N Hoes" PAC will dissolved on Thursday according to political consultant Allen Blakemore. His firm's employee, Shaun Nowacki, started the PAC on April 1 and named himself treasurer.

The PAC's name is a reference to a song from the 2008 film Step Brothers starring Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly.

No, it's not a good idea to name your PAC the "Boats 'N Hoes PAC." You are not at a college mixer anymore. http://t.co/c84k1chV1V— Samantha Lachman (@SamLachman) April 16, 2014

Blakemore is the senior consultant advising Sen. Dan Patrick in his campaign for lieutenant governor.

"Texas Republicans say they want to reach out to women, to be more inclusive, but actions like this reinforce a pattern of disrespect," Texas Democratic Party spokeswoman Lisa Paul said in a statement. There's no defending the use of a derogatory and offensive term like 'hoes.' How can women possibly take the GOP rebranding effort seriously? Their consistent contempt towards women is simply unforgivable.

According to the Texas Tribune, both leading gubernatorial candidates, Greg Abbott and Wendy Davis, criticized the PAC's name.

After campaigning w/ Nugent, opposing equal pay & citing Murray, Abbott consultants clearly took cues from him on "Boats 'N Hoes" PAC— Zac Petkanas (@Zac_Petkanas) April 17, 2014
