According to this Reuters article, the earliest jokes date back thousands of years.

The jokes mentioned in the 2008 article give new meaning to the term "oldies but goodies." The jokes were originally published by the University of Wolverhampton.

Reuters writes that number one on the list of the 10 oldest jokes: It is a saying of the Sumerians, who lived in what is now southern Iraq and goes: "Something which has never occurred since time immemorial; a young woman did not fart in her husband's lap."

Reuters continued, a 1600 BC gag about a pharaoh, said to be King Snofru, comes second -- "How do you entertain a bored pharaoh? You sail a boatload of young women dressed only in fishing nets down the Nile and urge the pharaoh to go catch a fish."

The question we have here at ArcaMax -- will people be reading the Internet jokes we publish 4,000 years from now? We hope so!
