White to Play

Pete Tamburro on

Published in Chess Puzzles

You can’t tell from the position of either player, but two grandmasters actually played this game: Schmid and Westerinen in 1968. White played one move and Black resigned.

Solution:

If Black had not resigned, White would have won too much material after 1.Bc6 Qxc6 2.Qxe6+ Be7 3.Qxg6+ Kd8 4.Qxg7
