Here’s our third missed opportunity for the week. In 1929, Takacs as Black found himself in this position against Przepiorka. If he won, he would tie for 2nd place. However, he just kept checking and finally agreed to a draw. He had a very decisive winning move here. What was it?

Solution:

The win starts with the astonishing yet logical 1...Rg1 2.Rg7+ [2.Rf4 Rc1 3.Ka4 Rc4+ 4.Rxc4 dxc4 5.Kb5 (5.Qg7+ Kc6) 5...c3+ 6.Ka4 cxb2 7.Qg7+ Kc6; 2.Rxg1 Qc4#] 2...Rxg7 3.Qxg7+ Kc6 4.Qxa7 Qc4#
