America of the past

I remember the America of which Mr. Prager speaks. I also remember when it began its downhill slide. It coincided with when the Bible was no longer allowed to be read in schools and abortion was legalized. The "anti-establishment" movement began, fueled by college professors, to "create a better world." But we got just the opposite and it only keeps getting worse all the time.

Changing Times

am a black male. I was born and raised during this period. Mr Prager is right but he does not understand that progress was made in several area. I want to thank all of the people in the civil rights movement.(I also particpated)There were others(several presidents, congress, judges and people who were concerned about better relationships)

Who would have would have that a black or a woman would run for the Presidencey. Today I am proud Senator Obama has a chance to become President. I never thought I would this historic.
Even though Sen Clinton lost, that is historic.

GOPer Rule

How funny that a Goper apologist finally sees the light. It's your party that's been in charge most of the time since you've been a little boy. The GOP has wrecked this country in record time. Thanks for finally taking notice.

Dennis Prager

Good morning guys! This is from the crank senior !I do not know what town Mr.Prager lived in but I can tell you he does not know what he it talking about.I lived in a little town back in New Jersey then and it may interest Mr.Prager to know that even in the 1950s we had crime. In fact, when I was 11 in 1958..a teenage boy at the high school shot and killed another boy over a girl. That made nation wide news.We also had a gand problem also and for everyones information,in the 1950s it was covered up.We were taught to hate the Russians and they were called Communists. We watched the hearings on tv and it was very frightening. In 1960 -during the Kennedy adminstration-Kruchev stated that we will bury us and we were forced in the 1960s here to have forced busing to end segretation. As for the boys..who is he kidding? Some of these criminals here had a mother and father. And if you think that a father is involved in his childs life..think again. In the 1950s there was a 40 hour work week. You could survive on one paycheck and Mommy could stay home.Mr.Prager does not live in reality neither does anyone of these Republicans..and I will tell why there has been a housing problem-OVERPOPULATION!And when there is a lot of people-they have to live somewhere..but to say that the 1950s were simpler shows nothing but a return the women to the kitchen mentality.I do not want to return to the 1950s.True,it was a simpler time but growing up then was terrible and a lot of young girls like had problems which us seniors have til this day.Lets stop glamorizing the 1950s.They were terrible.Remember this!

Hmm...

Thank you for taking me back there. Being a child of the 50's I too have shared in those same experiences and ideals. I tell my grandchildren of the America that I knew and while there are so many things I miss ( sleeping on our enclosed front porch because it's to hot without locking the screendoor in the center of a major northern city.) There of course are many things that I applaud because of the drastic changes (such as a woman or a person of color being able to run for thee highest office in America.) My country tis of thee, sweet land of liberty...of thee I sing.......

I certainly wish that my baby could grow up in a world more like the one I was raised in...now I just feel like I'd never want him to watch tv or attend public school because I don't want him to be exposed to such a morally bankrupt, corrupt, and hateful society. It really is sad.

To Anne

"In the '60's, we were forced to love minorities- had that not happened, probably the racial discrimination that was, indeed, dying a natural death, would have died sooner." That very statement proves that racial discrimination is not dead, even today. You were FORCED to LOVE minorities? ...and how did you love them? By not lynching them anymore, or by letting them sit anywhere they wanted on the bus,or maybe by not burning crosses in their yards. No, discrimination is not dead by any means for it took almost 400 years for racial equality to get this far and still have a long way to go, until statements like this disappear, then it will never be dead.

Those WERE the best times

I've seen and felt these events occurring around me all my life. I wish we could go back to that simpler place where you could do business with a handshake and trust that it was proper, help a fellow traveler fix a flat tire without fear that the person was just setting you up, and speak to every stranger without fear that they were going to turn around and knock you on the head and steal your purse.

In the 50's we were taught to hate Russians-- after all they were all Communists and Nikita Kruschev was coming to take us away from our Mothers. In the '60's we were forced to love minorities-- had that not happened, probably the racial discrimination that was, indeed, dying a natural death, would have died sooner. These days, we are being isolated and encouraged not to trust anyone. How very sad. Is the crime rate rising or is the news just more widespread so that it looks like we live in a world filled with criminals?
