White to Play and Mate in Three
Published in Chess Puzzles
We love miniatures. This one appeared in the Daily Telegraph in 1903.
Solution:
1.Qb3 Ke5 [1...Kg5 2.Qg3+ Kf6 (2...Kh6 3.Qg6# (3.Qh4#) ) 3.Qg7#] 2.Qb4 Kf6 3.Qe7# The first move has to be Qb3-- no other square, which makes it an admirable creative achievement on the part of the composer as there are so many squares to chose from.
