MLB: New York Yankees 4, Toronto 2

NEW YORK (UPI) -- A.J. Burnett yielded two runs and six hits in seven innings Friday, leading the New York Yankees to a 4-2 win over the Toronto Blue Jays.

Burnett (7-4) walked two batters, struck out seven and limited the heart of Toronto's batting order to two hits in 12 combined at-bats.

Robinson Cano and Alex Rodriguez both hit solo homers, Mark Teixeira drew a fifth-inning bases loaded walk, a run scored on a passed ball and Derek Jeter had two of the eight hits for the Yankees, who have won eight of their last nine games.

Closer Mariano Rivera earned his 21st save this season with a 1-2-3 ninth.

One of two hits for Toronto's Vernon Wells was a sixth-inning solo homer. Alex Rios had one RBI, while Marco Scutaro added two hits for the Blue Jays, who have lost six of eight.

The losing pitcher was starter Brian Tallet (5-6), who allowed three runs on six hits over six innings with four walks and three strikeouts.
