MLS: Kansas City 1, Chicago 1 (tie)
Cuauhtemoc Blanco scored on a penalty kick in first-half stoppage time for the Fire and Kansas City's Michael Harrington tied the contest early in the second half.
Chicago (12-9-6), now a half-game behind second-place New England in the Eastern Conference, is home against Columbus Oct. 12.
Kansas City (8-10-9) will also be on its home field, taking on New England Saturday.
