Karlsson win Euro golf in playoff

FIFE, Scotland (UPI) -- Robert Karlsson beat Ross Fisher and Martin Kaymer in a one-hole playoff Sunday to capture the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship at Fife, Scotland.

The trio finished regulation at 10-under 278, with all three playing the last 18 holes on the St. Andrews course, one of the tournament's three courses.

Both Karlsson and Fisher shot 7-under 65 and Kaymer shot 4-under 68 after he was a third-round co-leader Saturday.

"It was an unexpected win," the 6-foot-5 Karlsson told the BBC. "I played a bad round on Saturday but I managed to get myself in to the playoff (and) I had a good feeling about the first extra hole."

Saturday's other co-leader, Finland's Jarmo Sandelin (70), finished alone in fourth place at 8-under 280. Jose-Felipe Lima (68), Anthony Wall (68), and Magnus A. Carlsson (70) ended at 7-under 281 to share fifth place.

The scores were much better Sunday because the weather conditions were more favorable, far less blustery than the previous two days.
