The right fielder had three hits, including a two-run homer in the bottom of the third, a solo shot in the fifth, and a two-run eighth-inning double. Josh Hamilton had two hits and three RBI and five others had one RBI apiece.

Like Cruz, Gerald Laird had three hits and two others had two hits for the Rangers, who have split their last 10 contests.

The winning pitcher was starter Matt Harrison (7-3).

Boston's Kevin Youkilis belted a three-run third-inning homer. Mark Kotsay hit a two-run ninth-inning single.

Three others had one RBI and a total of three players had two hits for the AL East-leading Red Sox, whose four-game winning streak ended.
