MLB: San Diego 5, Milwaukee 2

MILWAUKEE (UPI) -- Shawn Estes limited Milwaukee to a run on seven hits in six innings Thursday and the San Diego Padres went on to down the Brewers 5-2.

Milwaukee lost its fourth straight and saw its lead over Philadelphia in the National League wild-card race reduced to four games. The Brewers also fell five games behind the division-leading, but struggling, Chicago Cubs in the NL Central. Chicago, losers of five in a row, had the day off.

Estes (2-1) got one inning each of relief help from Mike Adams, Heath Bell and Trevor Hoffman, who collected his 28th save.

Nick Hundley drove in runs with a sacrifice fly in the second and a double in the fourth and Luis Rodriguez contributed RBIs with a fifth-inning single and a sixth-inning sacrifice fly.

Jeff Suppan (10-8) took the loss, allowing four earned runs on seven hits in 5 1/3.
