MLB: LA Angels 7, Detroit 1

DETROIT (UPI) -- Ervin Santana combined with two relievers on a seven-hitter Thursday powering the LA Angels to a 7-1 victory over the Detroit Tigers.

Santana (15-5) surrendered an earned run and six hits in 7 1/3 innings with a walk and eight strikeouts. His shutout bid ended when Curtis Granderson belted a solo home run with one out in the bottom of the eighth.

Mark Texeira and Juan Rivera both had two hits and two RBI for the Angels.

Robb Quinlan had two hits and one RBI.

Two others knocked in one run, including Torri Hunter, who also had two hits, and Garry Matthews Jr. added four hits for the AL West-leading Angels.

Placido Polanco had two of the seven hits for the Tigers, losers in eight of their last 12 contests.

Losing pitcher Kenny Rogers (9-13) was torched for six earned runs and eight hits in two innings.
