Thursday's PGA tournament round washed out

ST. LOUIS (UPI) -- Heavy rain in St. Louis caused postponement of Thursday's first round of BMW Championship, the third leg of the PGA's FedEx Cup Playoffs.

Officials delayed the start of Thursday's round for two hours but then decided the rain would continue and called off all play Thursday. As much as 5 inches of rain was expected in the area.

The first round was reset for Friday. The players are to play 36 holes Saturday and 18 Sunday.

A total of 69 players were entered in the BMW Championship and the smaller field will make it easier to make up time, officials said.

Vijay Singh won the first two FedEx Cup Playoff events this year.
