MLB: Houston 4, Chicago Cubs 0

CHICAGO (UPI) -- Randy Wolf allowed six hits and struck out eight in going the distance Wednesday, carrying Houston to a 4-0 victory over the Chicago Cubs.

Chicago lost its fifth straight game, but maintained a 4 1/2-game lead atop the National League Central over the Milwaukee Brewers.

Wolf (9-11) threw the first shutout of his career, having previously pitched no more than seven innings in a game.

Ty Wigginton accounted for half the Houston runs with a two-run blast in the fifth.

Ryan Dempster (15-6) took the loss, giving up three runs on eight hits in seven innings.
