Sabathia does not get no-hitter

NEW YORK (UPI) -- Despite protests from the Milwaukee Brewers, Major League Baseball confirmed Wednesday that CC Sabathia did not throw a no-hitter last Sunday.

Sabathia allowed only one hit in Milwaukee's 7-0 victory over Pittsburgh and that hit was a controversial one.

Andy LaRoche, leading off the bottom of the fifth, hit a slow roller down the third-base line. Sabathia tried to pick it up, but bobbled it.

Official scorer Bob Webb ruled it a hit.

After the game, the Brewers sent a video of the play along with an official protest. If the play had been ruled an error, Sabathia would have had the second no-hitter of his career.

MLB's scoring review committee met Wednesday to look at the play and eventually decided not to change the call. League scoring rules state a call must be "clearly erroneous" for it to be changed.

"Major League Baseball appreciates the work that official scorers do throughout the season," said Phyllis Merhige, baseball's senior vice president for club relations. "Bob Webb is a 20-year veteran scorer who is held in high regard. This play is a reminder of the difficult decisions that official scorers face."
