MLB: San Francisco 9, Colorado 2
Zito (9-16), who has faced strong criticism because of poor efforts after he signed a seven-year, $126 million contract in 2006, threw 75 of his season-high 123 pitches for strikes and kept Colorado from putting together a big inning.
One of Pablo Sandoval's two hits was a sixth-inning, three-run homer.
Travis Ishikawa had two hits and three RBI.
Scott McClain had three hits, one a sixth-inning solo homer, and three RBI, while Nate Schierholtz had four hits and scored three times for the Giants, who have won just three of their last 10 contests.
Colorado scored on John Baker's second-inning, fielder's choice RBI groundout and Clint Barmes' fifth-inning, solo homer.
Garrett Atkins had two of the four hits for the Rockies, losers in four of their last 10 contests.
The losing pitcher was starter Aaron Cook (16-9).
