$3 million Emirates Airline Turf

Adriano rallied along the outside in the final furlong of Saturday's $500,000 Kent Stakes for 3-year-olds at Delaware Park and was just up to win by 1/2 length over Roman Tiger. Mr Maccool finished third and the pace-setter, Seeyouinthecity, got home fourth. Adriano, a Kentucky-bred colt by A.P. Indy, ran the 9 furlongs on firm turf in 1:52.54. Kent Desormeaux rode for trainer Bill Mott. It was the fourth win from 11 starts for Adriano, who earlier this year has contested some of the toughest 3-year-old turf events on the East Coast. "Mr. Mott has him pegged perfectly," Desormeaux said.

"He told me a little about him and that was exactly how I was able to ride him. He got the job done. He is a nice horse."

Madeo came three-wide into the stretch in Sunday's $350,000 Del Mar Derby, caught pace-setting Tangled Tango and went on to win by 1/2 length. The favorite, Virginia Derby winner Gio Ponti, was second with a late run after being forced wide on the turn and Tangled Tango held third. Madeo, a Kentucky-bred Mizzen Mast colt, finished the 9 furlongs on firm turf in 1:46.68 under Mike Smith, picking up his third win in seven starts. "He's matured a lot," said winning trainer John Shirreffs. "He was very immature early and was a problem when he shipped. But he's begun to settle down now."

Marlang, making his first start outside Canada, led virtually all the way to a 1 3/4-lengths victory in Sunday's $100,000 Sarnac Stakes for 3-year-olds at Saratoga. Vacation was second and Nistle's Crunch third. The favorite, Ready's Echo, settled for fourth. Marlang, a Gustav Schickendanz homebred son of Langfuhr, ran the 1 3/16 miles on firm turf in 1:53.1 under Richard Dos Ramos. "I was a little concerned because he never shipped before and he heard the races over at the stakes barn," said winning trainer Deborah England. "I was worried about him settling down. He has gotten better at everything."
