MLB: Cincinnati 3, Washington 0

CINCINNATI (UPI) -- Ken Griffey Jr.'s 604th career home run Friday propelled Cincinnati to a 3-0 victory against Washington.

His 11th homer this season followed a one-out single by Jay Bruce in the bottom of the first inning.

Griffey finished the contest with 5,001 total bases, making him the 18th major league player to total at least 5,000 bases in his career.

Cincinnati's other run scored when Washington left-fielder Elijah Dukes played a fourth-inning fly ball by winner Bronson Arroyo into a three-base error.

Adam Dunn had two of the seven hits for the Reds, whose victory assured that they would at least split the four-game holiday weekend series at the Great American Ballpark.

Arroyo (6-7) gave up five hits in six scoreless innings before closer Francisco Cordero recorded his 17th save.

Dimitri Young had two of the eight hits for the Nationals, who were shut out for the 10th time this season.

The losing pitcher was starter Jason Bergmann (1-6).
