MLB: Oakland 3, Chi. White Sox 2

CHICAGO (UPI) -- Donnie Murphy put Oakland in front with a fifth-inning homer Thursday and the Athletics, while managing just four hits, defeated the Chicago White Sox 3-2.

Oakland halted Chicago's seven-game winning streak.

The Athletics overcame a 2-0 deficit on Jack Cust's two-run homer in the fourth and Murphy delivered the final run of the game with a two-out blast in the fifth off Javier Vazquez (7-7) -- who picked up the loss despite throwing a complete game and striking out 10.

Justin Duchscherer (9-5) picked up the victory, giving up two runs on five hits in seven innings.

Alan Embree put the tying run on second in the eighth before working his way out of trouble and Huston Street came on in the ninth for his 16th save.
