Thistledown

Marble Cliff sat comfortably at mid-pack early in Saturday's $100,000 Cleveland Gold Cup for Ohio-bred 3-year-olds, took the lead easily on the second turn and hit another gear in the stretch, winning off by 13 lengths without much encouragement from jockey Luis Martinez Jr. Formal Arrangement was second, 6 1/2 lengths in front of Allsarott as the photo-finish camera took a break. Marble Cliff, a Jump Start gelding, ran 9 furlongs on a sloppy track in 1:52.16.
