'Nice surprises' on Pius XII in archives?
Monsignor Sergio Pagano was questioned about the pope's files Thursday during a news conference on Galileo, the Italian news agency ANSA said. The files are scheduled to be opened in 2014 or 2015.
''When the archives can be published there'll be some nice surprises,'' he said.
Pius became pope shortly before the outbreak of World War II in Europe and served until his death in 1958. His supporters, who included many Jewish leaders immediately after the war, argue he kept silent about the Nazis because he thought he could save more lives through apparent conciliation.
The debate is hot at the moment because Pius is a candidate for sainthood and because the Yad Vashem Museum in Israel gives an unflattering picture of his record. Pope Benedict XVI, during a recent trip to Israel, visited the Yad Vashem Memorial but did not enter the museum.

A Little Hindsight..
Was he, or was he not, a master politician..? He grabbed from the Nazi's vast sums of Gold, giving the Top German Hierachy a new lease on life. But, he kept it, used it to help banks reopen and rebuild a banking system which, with U.S. backing, helped rebuild what Hitler destroyed, fed people starving from the war, throught Europe, gave them jobs re-building nations, which was a huge boon for post-war America.. and fronted the Jews big money to help them re-establish a new nation. All this, knowing full well, he would never be publicly held accountable by anybody he smuggled to S. America, where they murdered no one and set up no camps...and spent thier lives in isolation, Paranoia, and fear.. Hmmmmmm...
So who really conned who..???
Was he the cleverest, or most greedy. Time continues to reveal.......Perhaps a little "Wisdom of Solomon."..!
