Charles: 'Religulous' targets all religion

The upcoming new U.S. movie "Religulous" was created to "destroy the whole system" of organized religion worldwide, director Larry Charles says.

Charles said at a recent news conference that the intent behind his documentary-style film was not to debunk any religious beliefs, but rather take an all-out assault on organized religion, The Observer reported Sunday.

"I don't think 'debunk' is the right word," the "Borat" director said. "I want to destroy more than debunk, just destroy the whole system."

"Religulous" features noted satirist Bill Maher discussing religion with individuals around the world and includes takes on every major religion.

For his part in the movie, Maher admits the filmmakers had to use a bit of deception in order to get people's honest opinions regarding the controversial topic.

"It was simple: We never, ever, used my name. We never told anybody it was me who was going to do the interviews," the comedian said. "We even had a fake title for the film. We called it 'A Spiritual Journey.'"

The movie already sparked protests at this month's Toronto film festival during its premiere screening.

Another 'hate' movie about religion

Well, Joyce and Will and all you guys....what does it matter what some people do? It is only important what you and I do with our faith (or lack thereof).

And to detractors about the existence of God: an old friend once told me "if I am wrong, I am no worse off than every other person. But if I am right..........." I do believe I am going to wait for that glorious day.

read the fine print

I agree totally with ezekiel and would like to add that I believe most people read the bible in the same manner, they see what they want to see and nothing else.

For all of the people who think that Bill Maher is out to get them they might want to read the fine print. It looks to me like Larry Charles is the man in charge of trying to destroy world wide religion according to this article. I wonder how people are able to make a comment on this without even reading what it says?

film

I don't think praying for Bill Maher will help, I think he has already commetted the unforgiveable sin. And God said once you do that there is no forveness. It's the only sin that God does not forgive. So pray for the director of the movie. Pray that he will see his follie and remove himself from Bill Maher.
