Archdiocese settles priest abuse cases

A $5.5 million settlement of 18 sexual abuse cases of young parisioners by priests has been announced by the Catholic Archdiocese of Denver.

The cases against three now deceased priests occurred between 1954 and 1981, The Denver Post reported Wednesday. Since August 2005, the archdiocese has settled out of court 36 lawsuits and seven other claims totaling about $8.3 million.

"We cannot undo the sins and failures of the past or the suffering they have caused," Archbishop Charles Chaput said at a Tuesday news conference. "I would like to express the sadness of all of us in the church that this happened."

But several of the victims of priests suggested the archdiocese covered up for abusers for years, allowing the actions to continue even when youths came forward.

"Going to the archdiocese was extremely scary," said Brandon Trask, 52. "I asked them, 'What did you know, when did you know it and what did you do about it?' Their answer was: 'We can't tell, we can't tell, we can't tell.' "

sexual abuse heavy toll on catholic archdiocese

These concerned preists have since died, confessed and forgiven their sins.God forgives our sins-everyone of us, from clergy to laity, starting from the age of reason. Why is it hard for us to forgive? This is not murder-abortionists should get punished, and sued! There are many things man don't do right, because of lax,or scrupulous consciences. We are God's children, so we are to know what is right and what is wrong, and will be punished or be rewarded accordingly, by God, our jury, our judge!Forgive so God will forgive you!in Jesus name, Amen!

Abuses

Jeannie mac:
You are correct; there is faith in the Church, however it is misguided and mislead by the very ones that condoned the abuse and then hid it from the world. You are also right that the core will never change, sadly, because God himself will have to judge her, for all the sins she has committed in his name.

SINCE 1954....

What more evidence do you need? The Church is full of predators in "sheep's" coverings. In fairness, there are very sincere believers, who unfortunately have been brain washed and misguided. "Get out of her, if you don't want to share in her destruction...."(Rev.18:4-8)
