Tales from the ArcaMax Chef
"At least this type of weather is good for the tomatoes", I remember thinking. At the time I considered myself quite the expert on all things tomato. After two hugely successful years growing tomatoes with little or no effort, I had experienced some problems with varmints earlier in the summer but had designed a chicken wire cage around my plants that was impenetrable. Even the local muskrats who had bellied up to the fermented fruit in my yard, and were drunk and had no inhibitions, couldn't figure out a way to get to my tomatoes.
Unlike your average sober muskrat, which tends to stay low to the ground, these drunk muskrats had taken flight, so to speak, and had been scaling the chicken wire fence around my garden to get at the tomatoes. I had designed and constructed a chicken wire roof for the garden which was very effective in keeping the drunk muskrats out, along with pretty much any other type of tomato-eating varmint. I have to admit that I was quite pleased with myself and my "super max" tomato plot.
By the afternoon, the heat and humidity was unbearable. The local weatherman came on the television from time to time with special reports about severe thunderstorms in the area. I wasn't too concerned. There had been threats of severe weather nearly every day for more than a week but the storms seemed to always go around our area.
Actually, I enjoy a good thunderstorm now and then and was actually looking forward to some thunder and lightening. Little did I know what was in storeā¦
God Bless America.
Enjoy!
