British Scouts hurt in Canada bus crash
The bus carrying 46 Scouts from England between the ages of 14 to 21 was en route to Toronto about 1:20 p.m. Thursday when the tractor trailer apparently swerved into oncoming traffic, the Toronto Star reported. The accident happened in Norland, about 120 miles northeast of Toronto.
The bus swerved but was clipped and ended up in a ditch at a 45-degree angle, said Ontario Provincial Police Constable Mark Boileau.
One young woman sustained serious injuries, while the rest of the Scouts along with both drivers sustained non-life-threatening injuries, Boileau said.
Carl Hankinson, county commissioner of the group, told the Star he was relieved it wasn't more serious.
"It's an unfortunate accident but it could have happened anywhere," he said. "It's just a blip in the trip."
