Journalist ordered to testify in killing

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (UPI) -- A journalist has been ordered to testify about published evidence in the case of a Louisville, Ky., woman of accused of killing her two children.

Reporter Jason Riley was ordered to appear in Jefferson Circuit Court Tuesday morning after the story published details of an official investigation of events leading up to and following the March 27 deaths. But the hearing was delayed following a meeting with the judge, The Louisville Courier-Journal reported Tuesday.

Gail Lynn Coontz has pleaded not guilty to two counts of murder and one count of terroristic threatening and tampering with evidence.

Court documents cited by the newspaper said that about a year before she was accused of fatally shooting her two children in their bedrooms, Coontz had called a crisis hotline and threatened to kill herself and her children. That prompted an investigation by the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services, which ultimately ruled that Coontz was not a threat to her children.
