We couldn't resist this problem. It's one of those old time problems that looks as though someone accidentally dropped a box of chess pieces on the board. Amidst all the chaos, though, is a fairly simple solution. Just use logic!


Solution:

1.Kb1 and mate next move. The threat is 2.Rc1 mate. We hope you saw all Black's defensive tries which include two different checks. We could not find the name of the composer, which is a great shame as he has a little gem here. The complete variations: 1.Kb1 e3+ [1...Rhxd5 2.Rc1#; 1...fxe2 2.Qxe2#; 1...f5 2.d6#; 1...Rb7+ 2.Bb6# 1...Rh1 2.d6#] 2.f5#
