A Few Tips On Making Your Car More Fuel Efficient
Kira Hiren
Article: With gas prices sky high most people who drive have an
interest in ways they can make their automobile more fuel efficient
and save as much money as possible. Whilst there are no fuel saving
tips that may keep your automobile full of gas without filling up,
there are some tips that actually will help you save money on fuel
over the future. All these tips focus on making your vehicle more fuel
efficient.
Fuel Efficiency Tip #1: Drive When You Crank Up - This might appear obvious, but as quickly as you crank up your automobile you should drive off. However, many people crank up and leave the car idling for a while. Instead of this, when you crank up drive off and only keep your auto running when it is totally mandatory.
Fuel Efficiency Tip #2: Don't Ride the Brake - Many drivers hit the brake more often than is required. In addition there are a few drivers that slow down for a braking automobile when they could easily switch lanes. Not riding the brake can raise your fuel efficiency by almost 30 percent, so this is a great tip you should follow.
Fuel Potency Tip #3: Turn Off Your Automobile If You're Stopping for Over Ten Minutes - You should switch off your car to keep fuel efficiency at its top and not burn more gas than is necessary.
Fuel Potency Tip #4: Don't Turn Off Your Car If You're Stopping for a Moment - When stopping for less than five minutes don't turn off your vehicle because the quantity of gas used to crank up is more than you would burn in that short time period.
Fuel Potency Tip #5: Inflate Tires Properly - Too many drivers never think of their tires, unless one goes flat. However, having tires that are correctly inflated can save fuel and make your automobile more fuel efficient, saving you money. Because of this, you should check your tire pressure on a regular basis.
While gas prices don't seem like they will be dipping considerably in the next few months every tip to help make your car more fuel efficient is helpful. So, follow the above fuel tips and you'll see that over time your auto actually is more fuel efficient.

RE: Tip 1 & 5
Tip #1...
I agree that you should not let your car idle for long periods. I disagree that you should start it and drive right off.
Most people don't know what motor oil weight that their car calls for (5w-30 or 10w-30), they just pull into a Lube-Place and let them use whatever the place is pushing, "Because oil is oil."
Most other auto-advice given on-line says let the engine idle for 30 to 60 seconds after starting before driving off. Especially in cold weather when the oil is thicker and takes longer to get to the farther reaches of the engine.
Tip #5...
Most car owners don't know that there is a Manufactures Sticker on the door or door frame that shows what the proper pressure is for your tires.
Some cars have different pressures for the front and rear and some have different pressures for a fully load car (i.e. passengers and luggage and/or towing a trailer).
Go by the information found on these stickers, and not by the maximum pressure found on the tire's sidewall.

Disagree with tips 3 & 4
I remember back in 1973/74 during the Arab Oil Embargo. I read a book back then that stated the amount of fuel used for starting your car was about the same amount used during 30 to 60 seconds of driving.
It's hard to believe that 35 years later it has now increased to five minutes.
Fuel efficiency has not increased that much.
These tips need to be clarified so the readers understand that you turn the car off when you come to a stop where you put the car in Park. You do not turn the car off when at a Traffic light or Stop sign.

Fuel economy.
I have to question the advice about letting your car run if its only going to be five minutes or less. Chevy had a pickup that shut down when at a stop and started up again when the gas pedal was pushed to go.
I once saw some advice that stated that idling for more than two minutes became wasteful.
I know that one opinion doesn't a rule make.
Just wondering.
