The Maltese is a dog belonging to the toy group that is covered from
head to foot with a mantle of long, silky, white hair. They're among
the gentlest of little dogs, yet are lively, playful, and vigorous.
Maltese can be very energetic and are known for their occasional
outbursts, however, they do well for apartment dwellers.
They're easy to train and pick up new tricks easily. Since they were
bred for companionship, they don't do well if left alone for long
hours. While the breed has a reputation for being good-natured, they
may be intolerant of small children or other dogs. In spite their
small size, Maltese seem fearless when confronted by creatures larger
than themselves. Maltese have no undercoat, have little to no
shedding, and are considered to be largely hypoallergenic.
Regular grooming is required to prevent their coats from matting.
