UPI.com offers audio news articles

WASHINGTON (UPI) -- United Press International announced the launch of a Web-based application to allow any of its articles to be heard over the Internet.

Using ReadSpeaker Enterprise, a program designed by VoiceCorp, makes UPI news articles available in either English or Spanish to users who click on a "Listen" icon on the www.upi.com Web site.

The service has been available since Sunday.

The application allows site visitors who may not be able to read text-based articles to listen to news stories.

"We are pleased to partner with VoiceCorp and implement ReadSpeaker on our stories. It's another way for us to give our audience a better user experience," said Seyla Seng, UPI's director of Online Advertising.

ReadSpeaker applications represent the first-generation range of online speech services that after only a few years are being used on thousands of Web sites and by millions of people every month.

UPI is an international provider of news through licensing of news articles, photographs and video feeds. More than 3 million unique visitors see the upi.com Web site each month.
