A. Merritt

Abraham Merritt originally studied law, but ended up working as a journalist (and later editor) of "American Weekly." His few fictional works were written as a side hobby, separate from his journalistic work, and included many early works of fantasy such as "The Moon Pool" and "The Drone Man." After his death, a fantasy artist and fan by the name of Hannes Bok completed some of Merritt's unfinished short stories after Merritt's death, and wrote a few more based on existing notes.
