David George Hogarth was an archaeologist and scholar who focused his
writings on the history of the East and Arabian cultures. He is often
associated with T.E. Lawrence (better known as Lawrence of Arabia) and
archaeologist Arthur Evans. His travels during his early adulthood
took him to, among other places, Cyprus, Crete, Egypt, and Syria.
Until his death in 1927, he was the keeper of the Ashmolean Museum,
Oxford's first university museum.
