(July 24, 1802 - Dec. 5, 1870)
Dumas Davy de la Pailleterie was poor in early life, but could rely
somewhat on his aristocratic connections to obtain employment at the
Palais Royal. He wrote his first play while there, and became famous
very soon after. He wrote several more plays, after which he turned
one of them into his first novel. This advance helped him create a
production studio that published hundreds of stories and essays. He
is best known for his adventure stories, including "The Three
Musketeers" and "The Count of Monte Cristo" - much of his work,
however, was aided by a large group of ghostwriters.
