(May 25, 1803 - Jan. 18, 1873)
Edward George Earl Bulwer-Lytton attended Trinity College, followed by
Trinity Hall, where he was recognized for his accomplishments in
poetry. He began writing professionally after his allowance was cut
off because of an undesired marriage - which he terminated not long
after. During his political career, his ex-wife continued to write
novels depicting him in a very unflattering light. He continued to
write on his own in various fields such as science fiction, mystery,
romance, and the occult. Most readers will know him, however, for the
now infamous first line of his novel "Paul Clifford": "It was a dark
and stormy night."
