Samuel Taylor Coleridge was born in Ottery St. Mary to a vicar, who
died shortly after. He left Cambridge without a degree, and married
shortly after, meanwhile carrying on an affair with William
Wordsworth's sister, Dorothy. One of his most famous poems, "Kubla
Khan" was (by his own profession) written during an opium dream -
although he claimed it remained unfinished because he was distracted
while writing it. Besides his poetry, he also wrote on such diverse
topics as literary theorty, politics, and philosophy.
