Jakob Grimm (1785-1863) and Wilhelm Grimm (1786-1858) studied law
together before they began assembling their famous collection of fairy
tales. Though most of the stories were taken from small German
villages, a few made their way in from the French tradition. Jakob,
the elder brother, was also the first to document Grimm's Law, which
demonstrates changes in certain phonetic sounds between languages.
