Are Human Beings Really So Special?

By Billy Graham, Tribune Media Services
Q: My high school biology teacher said the other day that we have to give up the idea that we human beings are anything special. We're just an accident on this planet, he said. As a Christian, I don't agree with this, but I didn't know what to say. -- K.K.

A: The Bible is clear: We are not here by accident; we are here because God put us here. God told Jeremiah, "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations" (Jeremiah 1:5).

Think of it: God knew all about you even before you were born, and He gave you life and put you on this earth. The same is true of every human being; every person on this earth (even those not yet born) is important in the eyes of God. Don't ever scorn or ignore someone because they are different from you; God calls them valuable -- so valuable that His Son gave His life for them.

But notice something else about God's words to Jeremiah -- God put him here for a purpose: "I set you apart; I appointed you." The same is true of you. In the years ahead you will face many important decisions -- but don't make them on your own. Pray about them, and seek God's will above all else. God loves you, and His will is always best.

Treat your teacher respectfully and ask God to help you be the best student you can possibly be. Don't argue with him; little is usually gained from that. But let the teacher know of your faith in Christ, and pray that you will be a witness to everyone of Christ's peace and truth.

true, very true!God put His image in our form, for we are made from dust.since he created adam and eve, He has loved us since, no matter what.we are His creation,so we are special to HIM.He reserved us for last, remember, to rule over the world He created. We are even more special than angels, because of the powers and gifts He has given us!read on 1 Corinthians 12,and 13.That is why satan is so jealous of us, humans! We are God's children, brethren!let's fight evil from our midst and live as children of light!with God, nothing is impossible, in Jesus name, Amen.

Reading this young person's question reminded me of a simular situation I was in I believe in my Sophmore year of high school. It was Science class also. The chapter's about Darwin's Theory was to be studied. The day after the assignment to read these chapters, my teacher called on me to answer a question about what I'd read. I, respectfully, answered, "I didn't read it. You can't believe this stuff and believe in God. I choose God." He slightly smiled and went on to another student. He gave me a 'd' for that portion of the studies, but not an 'F'. I do not know if what I responded had any impact on anyone in the class room that day; but I do know that my God heard my answer, as did anout 30 other students and a teacher. I planted God's seed. This was more than 40 years ago, but I have many times remembered the first day I stood up for God.
