What is the Difference Between Love and Lust?

By Billy Graham, Tribune Media Services
Q: What is the difference between love and lust? I think I'm in love with a girl who goes to the same college I do, but sometimes I wonder if it's just physical attraction. How can I know? I don't want to make a mistake. -- C.D.

A: Physical attraction may draw us to a person -- but you are right: It isn't the same thing as love. And you are wise to be alert to this danger; tragically, far too many people confuse the two, and their marriages often don't last.

Love between a man and a woman is more than a physical attraction or an emotional feeling -- although those have their place. True love is an act of the will -- a settled commitment to seek what is best for the other person. True love doesn't demand; true love gives. True love doesn't ask, "What can I get out of this person?"; true love asks, "What can I do to help this person?" To put it another way, true love isn't self-centered; true love is self-giving.

I could say much more about this if I had the space, of course, because it will take you a lifetime to explore the richness and complexities of human love. But let me suggest a test: Would you love this person even if she lost her physical beauty (as she will eventually), or if her body were ravaged by cancer or disability? The Bible says, "Love is patient, love is kind. ... Love never fails" (1 Corinthians 13:4, 8).

This is the kind of love God had for us when He sent His Son to die for our sins and bring us back to Himself. Open your heart to God's love by inviting Christ to come into your life -- and then ask Him to guide you in all your decisions about the future.

Differnce Between Lust And Love

This is one spot the difference that only takes complete trust in God to achieve.

Lust is wanting a person for physical attributes only but becos we feel immediate gratification we mistake it for love. Love is wanting to make plans with somebody for the future, know that the future will definitely make some changes to a person physically if not emotionally and we are still willing to make take that leap.

Love is thinking of this person's comfort and wellbeing at all times before yours, not the other way round. May God helps us all as we take this imortant step in life, but after all said it takes only Jesus to make marriage work, the bk of Ecclesiastes says in Chapter 4:12 tells of a cord of threefold not being easily broken, God is the third cord.

what's true love?

God's love is the source of true love.It comes from the heart.Dating is getting to know more of each other, that helps in deciding who 's the right one, to live with evryday, hopefully. for the rest of your married life!If it's true, it will withstand all kinds of ups and downs during your marriage. The only way you will enjoy marital bliss is, if you include GOD in your marriage, all the time!In sorrow or joy, good health or sickness, etc..good times or bad times, .God is always with us, as He promised, even until the end of time, Amen.

"Love is forever'

God's love is forever just like God's love for all of us. I just want to ask God's direction with regards to a husband because I have a son without a father.....there's more to this but, the devil doesn't want that explained ...I guess she wants me without connection to the truth . Please take her away from me.Could you really cast out a devil in Jesus name ...?She's been giving me doubts and I guess the father of my son too!
