Why Didn't God Take Away My Husband's Cancer?
By Billy Graham, Tribune Media Services
Q: I prayed and prayed that God would take away my husband's cancer,
and I was convinced He would. But last month he finally died after
much suffering, and I have to admit it's shaken my faith. Why didn't
God answer me? -- Mrs. A.F.
A: Few events in life are as painful as losing a spouse, and God understands your grief. He even understands your doubts and the other feelings you have, and I want to assure you that they do not change His love and concern for you.
But more than that, God wants to comfort you and help you deal with your loss. Don't cut yourself off from Him, even if you find yourself confused by what has happened to you. Instead, turn to Him and tell Him honestly how you feel -- and then ask Him to help you as you adjust to the loss of your husband. The Bible reminds us that He is "the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles" (2 Corinthians 1:3-4).
No, God didn't answer your prayer the way you thought He should. But He did answer it -- because now your husband has passed from all the pains and sorrows of this life into the joy and peace of heaven. His cancer is gone, and he is now safely in God's presence forever. In heaven, the Bible says, "There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain" (Revelation 21:4).
God's love for you is just as strong today as it was six months ago, or 60 years ago. The proof is Jesus Christ, who was willing to give His life so you could be with Him in heaven forever. Now more than ever, put your faith and trust in Him, and thank Him for the hope we have of heaven because of His love.

Cancer
I have cancer, probably incurable, and it is my conclusion that this is part of God's plan for me. We all die of something, I challenge you to show me a way to leave this body that is enjoyable. Along the way as various doctors and nurses have come into my life through this experience, I've encountered so many who are discouraged and/or say they have no faith in God. Many of them are amazed that I face this with calmness and humor. I think I was meant to witness to them and others. I am held up in prayer by my church family and I accept that God's plan may include cancer and what goes with it. My pastors and elders and I have celebrated a healing service for me and I believe that meant that I surrendered to the Lord and He will heal me on His timetable, in this world-maybe but certainly in heaven with Him. I trust Him.

Lost my dad
I lost my dad to cancer on May 11. I became a Christian a little over a year ago, dad was a Christian. Like you I prayed all the time for dad to be healed, me and him held hands and prayed along with my mom part of the time. i too had faithe that God would heal my dad. I have been very down about things also especiallly the last few days. when I hear talk about healing I have been turning it off. i know we all have an appointed time to be born and die as well but it is hard to lose someone. I guess the enemy has been fighting me. It's as if God wanted me to see this e-mail and let me know that things are alright. Which i have had no doubt dad is fine now and with god. I guess I'm just selfish. I know dd wouldn't come back here if he could. I know I'll see him again some day. Mr. Graham you're right about what you said. I read your questions every day.

My dear sister, I'm so sorry for the pain you are going through right now. My heart ache for you. If somebody can understand you is me. My husband went Home with the Lord 10 years ago after suffering so much from cancer. I prayed so much and my sons and we believed with all our heart that the Lord will heal the cancer, but the Lord healed him in a way that we are not capable to understand. One thing I know is that my dear husband has not cancer anymore and he is in Heaven with our Lord and one day we are going to reunited again. God is good all the time even through the vally of death. Trust HIM with all your heart. He is your husband right now. Read Isaias 54. The Holy Spirit is going to be your conforter as it is promised. Seek more and more of God and trust Him, He is going to lead you and help you everyday of your life. Seek support of good brothers and sisters, "especial sisters" and when you feel better, get involve in activities in your Church, given a lot of your time to the Lord. God loves you and now even more when He knows how much you need of Him. I pray the Lord give you the strengh, relieve the pain you are feeling in your heart and His love embraced you everyday. God Bless you my sister. I will be praying for you. With love and sympathy. A.M.
