Deirdre

Deirdre. With all due respect. It IS a cartoon. Lighten up. I suppose you do not find talking dinosaurs, snakes, turtles etc absurd?

Disrespectful and ignorant

I have been watching this strip go downhill ever since Johnny Hart's death. During his lifetime, he drew and wrote a gentle, clever, and occasionally even uplifting strip built around easily recognizable and lovable characters, each of whom possessed their own unique personality and point of view. Since Hart's death, the strip has suffered from the gradual blurring of those characters. Today, at least in my view, was the final slide down the slippery slope frequently visited by amateur comic artists - people who only THINK they are funny. The idea of two flowers enjoying a smoke together after pollination (aka, sex) is not only absurd and completely inappropriate - it is also botanically ignorant. I'm not even going to bother with listing my objections to the inuendo, I'll just move straight to the ignorance issue: In most flowering species, pollination only requires one flower, as each blossom contains both male and female reproductive organs. If you insist on being crude, at least give one cigarette to the bee. Idiots.

explanation

I really thought it was funny. Bees polenate flowers to help reproduce more flowers, as in sex. Clever, really.
