Tales from the ArcaMax Chef

Last time we were discussing the Jungle Boys (our 14 and 16 year old sons) and how they got that nick name. (Actually, "discussing" is probably not the best description for this transfer of information since it really only goes one way. It's more like me dictating to you or me imposing my memories on a hopefully receptive audience. I would love the chance to really discuss these issues with our loyal readers but y'all are pretty spread out all over the world and scheduling would be a nightmare).

The oldest Jungle Boy was eleven months old and we had just moved into a new house. As any of you with kids know, having an eleven month old baby around can be pretty stressful. Add to that the stress of moving and we were pretty much frazzled. Sleep was a premium and She and I barely had time to talk, let alone time for any other marital activities.

On top of the usual stresses that accompany new babies and houses, She Who Must Be Obeyed became very ill every time She set foot in the new house. I was convinced that we had purchased a sick house and that the only way to remedy the problem was replace the carpet, paint, walls, etc., or move again.

I did find it curious that She was the only one who was made ill by the house. After all, if the house was truly sick it should affect everyone. I assumed maybe She was just ultra sensitive and that we would all soon fall victim to the to the house illness.

She had been sleeping upstairs, trying to get over a headache and I went to check on She. Because of feeling so bad, She hadn't been eating very much. On this occasion, She woke up hungry and I asked She what She would like to eat. She had a very specific order ...

"Strawberry ice cream and mashed potatoes with gravy"

Suddenly, the house didn't seem so ill after all ...

God Bless America.

Enjoy!
